Have you ever gone to the store and seen some poor lady with kids EVERYWHERE?Undoubtedly most of them are wearing diapers and screaming and you just say a little prayer of thanks that you are not her...I WAS THAT WOMAN TODAY! I went to Target with 4,3,2 and 9mo old children. I would love to tell you that it was an amazing experience where I discovered the true strength and power of just ONE woman-but no that would be a bitter lie-it was a Fiasco with a capital F. Picture me pushing this monstrosity called a cart that was basically a big old rusty van on wheels(it wasn't actually rusty but it drove like it was), the baby messy and crying, Tyler taking his shoes and socks off and trying to put them on the baby which DEFINITELY made things worse, every child that was capable of speech begging for popcorn, every child that was capable of movement thinking that the can goods were meant to be knocked to the floor, and me talking to myself saying things like this, "I can do this...I am a pioneer...Why me...Please stop pinching my face, Don't take your pants off...Please don't take your pants off...If you take your pants off again I swear..."
I've always considered myself to be of average intelligence but seriously the fact that it took me an entire half hour to take everything in my cart out, abandon it unashamedly in the middle of the aisle, and leave empty handed makes me question my intelligence. What was I thinking? Did I really believe that good could come from 4 children in a cart?
I just want to tell all you moms out there with 4 kids under 5...WOW! You are amazing. You are my hero. You are probably not reading this right now because browsing blogs is probably a thing of your past-you're probably too busy keeping everyone's pants on!

I don't have 4 kids, but have often felt like that if I take all mine ANYWHERE together. Though, i can't complain--they USUALLY are pretty good. It's rough stuff though! You are so darn brave! Impressive!!

um....i read your paul giamatti criticism. paul is beauty. paul is love. like i always say, you can't make people love you; you can only stalk them and hope they give in.

Lemme tell ya something: YOU'RE SUSPECT.

andrea. everything about you screams that you, in fact, are a pioneer of 2008. if petticoats were fashionable you would be wearing them. women on the trails did not have to face the hardships you had to face in target today. why? because those pioneer children had better things to do than pinch you or take off their pants. they had to push the cart or perish under the wheel of the wagon or oxen. maybe that is something we should invent...a way to keep the little 'uns busy during the grocery store trip. ben & i make caleb push the big old nasty crate thing through sam's club. it started to make him feel big & important. it will continue because it wears him out & keeps him busy. just a thought. you are fantastic. now go finish churning that butter. :)

My mother had 7 kids and when she went to the store none of us EVER got to go. I never understood why...until I had kids. I have done this too, walking out of a store, cart abandoned, almost in tears because of my little angels :)

What a trooper you are?!? I hate those carts. That's why Wendy and I don't go shopping together much anymore because between the two of us we have 5 and after 2 or 3 potty trips and 2 stinky diapers and all the things you talked about we decided that it's just not a good idea. I shouldn't complain because there is two of us and there was only one of you. Good luck next time...if there is one.;)

You were smart to leave. I usually try to finish anyway- though that was only with my two. Since Katie arrived, we have gone to the store twice, but I made Aaron go with me!

wow! is all I can say. You have some patience. I always try to go shopping while Ry is at school. I guess I will have to bring Devin at some point. I now have a respect for any mom with more than one little one as anything you do including shopping takes longer. I will no longer take for granted my shopping trips by myself.

You are a brave soul. I did that once too and let me tell you I had more appreciation for those single moms that have no choice.
There is this store here called Meijer, it's like Walmart but not quite as cheap, any way they have these Huge massive carts that look like little race cars but not just any race car, inside the race car is a TV and you pay One Dollar and it'll play a cartoon(you pick which one) for an hour so you can just let your kids numb their brains or be hypnotized or whatever while you shop. I tried it once, it was nice. My only complaint about them is how large they are you feel so mammothly huge wandering the store with that thing.
