Ethan: "Mom I have a problem."
Me: " What's that?"
Ethan: "My tongue is growing too big for my mouth."
Me: "Huh?"
Ethan: "Everyday when I wake up my tongue is bigger than the day before, and my mouth just stays the same. Mom, this is very hard, I can't fit my tongue in my mouth anymore. What am I going to do?"
Me: thinking of an answer when Tyler(who,by the way, is almost 3 and should know the difference ) comes out yelling holding a toy camel in his hands
Tyler: "momma look. The dolphin, it swims." He splashes the camel in some water making it swim. He continues, " Cute dolphin, momma. So cute, baby dolphin. See?"
So... Some questions I have :
- What is Ethan talking about. Can your tongue really grow bigger?
- Why is my three year old calling a camel a dolphin...and should I be concerned?
- And how does my adult brain stay intact when these are the questions I am asking myself?

I sooooo wish Siena could talk and give me a glimpse of her imagination.
I get camels and dolphins mixed up all the time. Sounds like tyler may need a trip to sea world.
Ahh that is too cute that Ethan wants to know those things.
And are you ever going to go on our blog agian?
ha! i once saw a dolphin who spit a lot. maybe that is why tyler is confused between the two. i also met a camel named 'flipper.' as far as ethan and his tongue, you are on your own. he says the greatest things. i love to hear how his little brain grasps concepts. the whole 'death' exerpt was mind-boggling. not just for him, it sounds like, but for me too.
I can't believe how deep Ethan thinks about things! Courtney's biggest thought in life is thinking where has she placed her baby when she can't find it! I wouldn't be concerned about your boys...they are WAY TOO CUTE!
Yes your tongue can grow bigger. It is a condition know as Macroglossia (it actually does't grow bigger in this case it just is bigger than the mouth allows for) Very common in people with Down Syndrome and a few other conditions (not saying anything about Ethan) Peoples tongues get bigger as they lose teeth also (adults) An edentulous person (no teeth has a rather large tongue compared to his mouth because the tongue isn't inhibited by the pressure of the teeth against it. It spreads out an makes itself comfortable.
Don't you just LOVE the totally random conversations that happen in a house with toddler/preschool kids?!? Thanks for the post. Made my day!
