Have you ever made a discovery that shook you to your core? Something that shocked you, changed the way you think?

Tyler just did. He was in the garage and found a box full of old stuff. While rummaging through the junk he came across a broken Willow Tree Statue. Her head had broken off and I'd chucked it in the box to be repaired someday. Tyler finds this head and well...he was disturbed.

"Momma(he has a stuttering problem) Wa Wa Wa Why dis girwl have no eyes." I explained that she was just a decoration and din't need eyes. Then he says, "Wa Wa Wa Why dis giwl have no mouth?" Once again I explained that she was just pretend and didn't need one. He then continues to ask me about her nose, ears, tongue, lips and every other feature a face should have. After I have explained and explained and I feel pretty confidant that he's over this faceless "girwl," he starts up again demanding to know how she can eat and cry and talk and hear without her features. This goes on most of the day. He carried the little head around with him everywhere and would look at her face and I could just see panic in his little eyes. "What kind of world is this..."girwls" without mouths?"

Just when I thought this dilemna would never resolve, that my three year old would be tormented by the faceless head forever, it magically resolved itself. We were sitting outside and without thinking about it he rubbed the head on the sidewalk. When he looked down and saw that her head made marks on the ground he was thrilled. "Momma, Her Her Her head is a crayon. She have a crayon head!" Gone was the confusion about heads with no face. The fact that she had a "crayon head" made up for that a thousand times over. Who needs a face anyway?

But, we do have a new problem. Ty is now asking me if he can try drawing with my head!

I don't know you, and you don't know me, but I am laughing my head off! No pun intended! I read Rachel's post, and hopped on over, and was having a rough evening putting the kids to bed...we're struggling still, but I think I'll make it...knowing that her head made for good chalk...

My little boy was carrying around one of my willowtree statues around tonight(the one with the mom and two boys - my son likes to name us)...which makes this even funnier! LOL! THANKS!

okay just to freak tyler out, put some washable paint in your hair, lay down a piece of paper & rub your head all over it. let's mess with his mind a bit...make him think all heads have the potential to make artwork! you'll have to watch him around babies though, he might start to get creative. :)

You know, I don't think I've ever even noticed that they didn't have faces... but now, looking at the couple I've got sitting on my bookshelf- they ARE kinda creepy! I don't think I'll ever look at a Willow Tree statue the same again... thanks a lot! ;0)

Wow! I just looked at it completely different from all of you. Maybe I am the disturbed one.

I saw it as Tyler was upset because there was no way for the girwl to experience the world, or express herself. Although I am a bit surprised he didn't say anything about her missing arms, torso, legs, ect. But then it was all okay because she wasn't really a doll, or a girwl, she was a crayon. Either that, or she could express herself BEACAUSE she was a crayon.

Okay, wait, YEAH, I'M the messed up one. LOL!

P.S. I'm Rachel's friend. Ask Rachel, she'll agree with me - I'm messed up. HAHAHA!
